Alpha Youth Film Series

WHAT IS ALPHA?

Alpha is a series of interactive video sessions that engage people in conversations about faith, life and Jesus. It is supported across denominations and various Christian traditions and has been run in a variety of locations, including homes, restaurants, coffee shops, universities, churches, youth groups and prisons. Almost 24,000,000 people in 169 countries have gone through Alpha and many have experienced the life-changing power of Jesus Christ. In January 2014 Alpha launched the Alpha Youth Film Series (AYFS) for teens here in the U.S.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

It’s FREE. All of the resources you need to run Alpha are available online for free. However, the AYFS is available for purchase in DVD and USB format.

HOW SHOULD WE USE THIS RESOURCE?

The AYFS series is twelve episodes and meant to be done over 8-10 weeks (depending on how many sessions are included on the Alpha Weekend or Alpha Day). Each episode is about 20 minutes with built-in discussion breaks. The typical format on Alpha includes food, fun, a talk (video or live) and discussion. However, within YFC, that structure may be a bit challenging. While it is important to remember that sessions build off one another, we encourage you to utilize this resource as it fits within your specific context.

  • Session 1 Is This It?
  • Session 2 Who is Jesus?
  • Session 3 Why Did Jesus Die?
  • Session 4 How Can We have Faith?
  • Session 5 Why and How Do I Pray?
  • Session 6 Why and How Do I Read the Bible?
  • Session 7 How Does God Guide Us into Full Life? Weekend Who is the Holy Spirit and What Does He Do? Weekend** How Can I Be Filled with the Holy Spirit?
  • Session 8 How Can I Resist Evil?
  • Session 9** Does God Heal Today?
  • Session 10 What About the Church and Telling Others

CAN I SPLIT THEM AND ONLY SHOW A FEW AT A TIME?

The Alpha Film Series is built to be one continuous experience. For maximum effectiveness we encourage you to run the entire course as it was designed. However, if you feel like your group would be better served digesting them in small chunks, you are welcome to make appropriate adjustments.
FAQ About the Alpha Youth Film Series

DO I NEED TO CALL IT ALPHA?

If you are giving students the full 8-10 weeks + 1 weekend experience, we would encourage you to call it Alpha. However, if you are just showing clips or only doing it a few weeks at a time, our recommendation would be to not label that an Alpha course. We should note, throughout the videos, they will call it Alpha.

CAN I SHOW SHORT CLIPS IN CLUB OR GROUP GATHERINGS?

Short clips are great for giving students a taste of the experience, but they are not a replacement for having students do the real life thing. The main goal behind Alpha is to be a jumping-off point for discussions, not to be used as message illustrations.

WHERE CAN I DOWNLOAD IT?

You can download the training videos, the talks and discussion guides at: www.alphayouthfilmseries.com. You will need to register through their site, but once you have done that you will be able to view and download all the training videos, sessions, discussion guides and promotional materials.

HOW SHOULD I PREPARE?

There are three short, interactive, training episodes available upon registration. Everyone who registers will have full access to a variety of promotional materials. We don’t recommend running Alpha without doing training with all of the leaders involved. It is essential for first timers and includes very important information for returning leaders.

IS THERE A PREVIEW?

Of course! You can preview the first three episodes at YouTube Channel. The rest of the episodes are available for free when you register your group.

IS THE YOUTH FILM SERIES AVAILABLE IN OTHER LANGUAGES?

Yes. There are dubbed versions in Spanish and Portuguese and subtitled versions in Dutch, Traditional Chinese, and Simplified Chinese. Translations in other languages will also be available soon.

** Please be advised that the episodes on How to Be Filled with the Holy Spirit and Does God Heal Today may differ from your theological views. “Speaking in tongues” (briefly mentioned in the How To Be Filled talk) has both proponents and opponents to its Scriptural importance. But though various groups of believers have different ideas about this topic, we all as Christ-followers affirm the necessity of being filled with the Spirit as it relates to our assurance of salvation and walking out a victorious Christian life. We would highly encourage you preview each video before showing them to your students. Be sure to ask the question, “Does this fit your overall ministry strategy and vision?”
